Galactica Gets Dark(er) in Season Three

Source: Now Playing Magazine
Written by Cindy White

The first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica weren't exactly light-hearted affairs, but according to executive producer Ron Moore and star Edward James Olmos, the upcoming third year will be its darkest yet. In separate interviews, the two recently spoke to Now Playing about where the show is going and what's in store for both the human and Cylon factions (Hint: It's not going to be pretty for either side).

"The writing, the story, the character development is devastating," Olmos says. "I cannot tell you. I worked last week and I've never had a week like that in my life, because everything that's happening to the human species is into the final steps of its annihilation. So every single moment becomes the end of the existence of the human species, and it's deadly when you are working at that level constantly. The attention is overwhelming. Both Mary [McDonnell] and I are sitting there going, ?My God. This is too much.'"

Olmos revealed that the humans will use (spoiler to follow, highlight to reveal) a pandemic to try and annihilate "a race" (he didn't say which one, but it's not difficult to guess) by infecting them with a deadly virus. He also talked about returning to the director's chair for the 12th episode, which will be the first to air after the mid-season hiatus. The tone of the episode will be quite different from his previous effort, last season's "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down."

"This one will be more connected to the main body," he says. "The other one was a comedy. We decided to try one in the first season just to lighten things up. And it worked well. I thought it worked very, very well. It was very different, and it introduced some very strong characters. And in turn, those characters now are going to devastate you. What happens to them is brutal. It's very sad."

For executive producer Ron Moore, the turn to the dark side is something that was always part of the show's natural progression. "I think we deal with some dark material in the third season," Moore agrees. "I don't know that it's any darker than anything we've dealt with previously, but the show continues to sort of take risks and be provocative and do challenging stuff. I'm happy about that. But the show is not nihilistic. The show is not a bleak show about really depressing things. I think it's really just about how people react and how people are and how people behave in situations and that's what you're tuning in to see."

Moore adds that he's not worried about the series getting too serious. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. "The show's always had a dark premise at its heart, [but] the show's also always been about hope and the human condition and the fact that these people struggle on in spite of everything that happens to them."

The season premiere of Galactica airs Friday, Oct. 6 on SCI FI Channel.

Adm Adama interview (Season 3)

CHUD Interviews EJO

Source: CHUD.com

(Warning: Minor Spoilers in text)

Battlestar Galactica is surely the biggest television surprise of the last decade - who imagined that a crappy Star Wars rip-off TV series from the 70s could be reimagined in the 21st century as the smartest, most relevant show on any network? It took me a long time to accept that this show could be worth anything, but when I gave in and watched it, I got hooked immediately. Every person I bring to the show is an uphill battle ... until they actually sit down and watch the thing.

Battlestar doesn't take place in the future; rather it's a show set in another galaxy where humans have colonized twelve planets and created a peaceful society. A generation ago the human's robot slaves, the Cylons, rebelled, and a bloody war was fought. Forty years of peace followed, with the Cylons disappearing. But they return one day and wipe out the twelve planets, leaving only a ragtag fleet of less than 50,000 human survivors lost in the galaxy, trying to find the mythical planet of Earth. Meanwhile, the Cylons have new models that are indistinguishable from humans, and they have infiltrated the human fleet. The show examines war and conflict in a very modern setting - a recent episode had a human partisan on a Cylon occupied human world acting as a terrorist, blowing up a café ¦ull of humanoid Cylons.

The cast of Battlestar was at Comic Con this year, but I was too busy to make it to their panel. Color me very bummed. I was able to get a few minutes with Edward James Olmos, though, as he was promoting his son's directorial debut, the gangster film Splinter. On Battlestar Olmos plays Admiral Adama, the man in charge of the ragtag fleet, and the man who has had to make some tough and controversial decisions to keep humanity alive.

Q: Talking to the cast of Splinter, one thing that keeps coming up is that while the film is a thriller and it needs to be exciting, the movie has reality to it. It seems to be the same thing with Battlestar - sure it's sci fi, but it's addressing political issues. How important is that to you in your work?

Olmos: It makes all the difference in the world when you have this passion for what you're doing. You've got to have a strong sense of understanding of that. It affects everything. Intent equals content - the intention with which you're doing something comes out in the content. Everytime. If your intention is to make money, you see it like that in the art. If your intention is to become rich and famous you can see the intention in the choices the person is making and where they're going. There's no hiding a commercial artist when you see one. I've never been able to do that - and I've made commercial pieces of work. They all had the sense of understanding humanity in a way that allowed you to go to the movie and come out understanding a little bit about yourself. That's what it's all about.

Q: Do you think the reality is important to the audience as well?

Olmos: Did you see American Me? That's an ugly movie; nobody should be exposed to that. What the hell do you want to go for two hours and watch that life? Better you should go to The Godfather - at least that's romantic and you come out humming the theme song.

Q: Life is ugly sometimes.

Olmos: It is. And that's exactly what [Splinter] is.

Q: The reality that you guys bring to Battlestar will be continuing in the third season - we're going to learn that Adama has a dark past.

Olmos: Man, it's brutal. I can honestly tell you the first two years cannot prepare you for what happens in the third. Not even close. I'll tell you this, you're going to have to deal with suicide bombers. You're going to have to deal with the spread of a pandemic for the annihilation of an entire race ... done by the good guys! The good guys are the ones doing it. It makes you stop and re-evaluate.

You're talking about the last vestiges of the human species. When we enter the third season - we were 49,000 people when we left our planets at the very beginning, at the first episode of this journey to find another planet to breed humankind again. We're now less than 38,000. We lost 11,000 people, man.

Q: Are you surprised that the show can be that dark and that brutal and yet be so popular?

Olmos: Yeah! Yeah! I'm totally blown away. We won the Peabody, man! Give me a ****ing break. How in the world does that add up? Where does that line cross? How does that happen? I get chills. I've been doing this for 41 years, man, and Battlestar Galactica wins the Peabody? I'm the ****ing guy that did Stand and Deliver! I'm the guy that did The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez. I have used the television medium to the best of my abilities and done stuff that will be lasting forever in the annals of the artform - and Battlestar Galactica gets the Peabody.

Q: How long do you see the show going on for?

Olmos: We've been talking about it. It's hard to write this. These guys are always on the verge of a nervous breakdown because they can't go in for the flash and the simple, basic sci fi mode. If they do that, they'll crush everyone.

Q: Everybody expects more.

Olmos: Oh man, they do. And they're waiting, and they're anxious. And you know what? I'll give you my attention, and you are the best show. Now what are you going to do this time? People are dying to turn on the television and see this piece of work. It's unbelievable. I don't know what to say about it. I'm blown away.

Q: Adama has to make tough decisions, has to do things that cross the line or could be considered troubling - how important is it that you agree with him, or understand where he's coming from?

Olmos: As a human being? Me, as an actor? I never get into that kind of psychology. When you're inside that world, everything is the end of all humankind. Every single day, every single time. We did last week - it was the darkest week I have ever spent in film, ever, in which I am literally going to annihilate, push all the nuclear weapons I have on the ship to annihilate everything. The Cylons, us, everything. It's all over guys! I have my finger on the button, man! And it's so brutal. It's just so brutal what happens, man.

Q: How do you decompress from that?

Olmos: It's hard. You come home from work worn out. The whole day you spent in this vicious, vicious world that's self-destructive. I'm in constant conflict with everybody - my son, Tigh, the relationship between me and everybody. It's tremendously difficult. You just feel for everybody.

Q: That's part of the joy of the show.

Olmos: It is. Everybody loves it. They love that tension, they love to go, 'What's he going to do now?' It's amazing. I am so lucky - I am a true believer in the program. I believe this is one of the greatest programs I have ever been involved with in my life and that I have ever seen on television.

Episode 4.01: The Avengers
Airdate: November 2, 2006

07/22 - Seth works at a comic book store in Newport. Kirsten drops by the store to ask Seth if he has something to send Ryan in a "care package" she is preparing. Later, Seth tries to talk Ryan in coming to dinner at the Cohens' but the latter isn't easily persuaded, saying he works nights, etc. At her dorm, Summer and a friend named Che try to rally students for a protest. Summer gets a phone call from Taylor who seems to be in Paris. Leon from Season 2 is in the episode. Source: SpoilerFix.com
07/14 - 16-year-old twins Brad and Eric Ward (Luke's brothers) will make their first appearances as recurring characters in the season premiere. In the season premiere, the twins and Kaitlin go to Newport Plaza to study and smoke a joint. Kaitlin is surprised to see Dr. Roberts and the Step-Monster (aka Summer's step mom) together at the mall. Later, Kaitlin and the twins go to a party on the beach where she leaves them stranded in a car on the beach. Source: SpoilerFix.com [Note: It is unknown if this means Luke will be on the show and if so, if he will be guest starring in a few episodes or be a recurring or regular. Also, it seems we will not clearly see who the step-monster is.]

Episode 4.02: Title Unknown

Julie and Kaitlin take part in a clothing drive at Harbor School. Source: SpoilerFix.com [Note: Some reports say that Ryan and Seth will be in Mexico and not in Vegas.]

General Season 4 Spoilers:

06/07 - Yes, it's true. The show doesn't come back until early November and, with the scheduling for this fall and next winter/spring, Fox only needed 16 at this point. I'm told that number can easily (and quickly) be increased. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
05/24 - Josh Schwartz reveals: [Season 4] won't pick up directly. We're not coming back until November, and I think we'll use some of that time to put a couple of months between us and the tragedy. But it certainly will not be forgotten. Volchok will be around, and you'll have an opportunity to see how [killing Marissa] landed on him and affected him, and I think that will be interesting. The show was originally about Ryan and the Cohens, and that's what it's going to go back to next year. It's really going to be about the Cohen family surrounding Ryan after this and the battle for his soul. Some people have gone to college when the show starts, some people haven't been able to go, and some people are waiting to go. We'll break the mold next year. [Part of the show will be set in Rhode Island.] Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
05/19 - When the series returns for season four, high school seems like a distant memory to the young graduates, who have been thrust into adulthood after the life-changing events of graduation night. Who heads to college to try to put the past behind them? Who stays in town because they can’t let the past go? Will the person responsible for the tragedy go free? Or will someone decide that the way to heal is through revenge? It’s a battle for Ryan’s soul as the Cohens struggle to keep him focused on the future, fighting the forces that threaten to pull him back into his old life. Sandy returns to the Public Defender’s office, and he and Kirsten find themselves reaching out to another troubled teen, but this one is not a stranger. It’s Kaitlin Cooper, the number-one troublemaker at The Harbor School, and too much to handle for her mother Julie, who’s off making some trouble of her own. The person most excited about leaving high school finds himself back there – as a teacher. And new cast member Taylor Townsend finds herself with some unlikely new roommates – and family members. As much as the arrival of Ryan has changed the lives of this community, so too has the departure of Marissa. The season hits the ground running with just the right mix of heart, humor, action and romance as our characters embrace their futures together. It’s a new day on THE O.C. … Source: FOX
04/19 - Josh Schwartz told my colleague Ileane Rudolph that he's planning a major "reinvention" of the show next season. For starters, Kaitlin (Willa Holland) will move back to town full-time, sparking a "repopulation of the high-school universe," Schwartz says. "You will see a whole new generation through Kaitlin's eyes." The "older" set, meanwhile, will segue into a "twentysomething world beyond just the bait shop. There's a whole young-adult world in Newport for our kids to get in trouble in." Schwartz won't guarantee that the core four — Seth, Summer, Ryan and Marissa — will all be back, but he did share this most welcome scoopbit: Autumn Reeser (Taylor) will be made a series regular. "You can anticipate a more fully evolved, romantically evolved version of Taylor in Season 4." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

New Spoilers for Fall 2006 Smallville

Smallville Spoilers (Inviso-text, highlight to reveal) from Spoilerfix

Smallville Spoilers
Updated on August 1, 2006

Smallville airs on The WB on Thursdays at 8 p.m. The CW has renewed the series for a 6th season and will leave the show in its current timeslot.

Episode 6.01: Zod
Airdate: September 28, 2006

07/13 - Aaron Ashmore — aka Veronica Mars' former beau, Troy Vandegraff — has been cast as Jimmy Olsen on Smallville! My Super mole confirms that Jimmy is being groomed as a love interest for Chloe! Source: The Ausiello Report
07/01 - Casting notices for the role of "Jimmy Olsen" have gone out for the season premiere! "Secretagentman" has revealed that Smallville's Jimmy Olsen is in his twenties. He is described as "adorable" and pesters Chloe for a dinner date until she finally gives in. Apparently they'd interacted in the past and each thought the other wasn't interested. The casting breakdowns imply that the character will recur throughout the season. It also says that Jimmy nicknames Clark "C.K.," which is a trait originated with Michael Landes' Jimmy Olsen in Lois & Clark. Nam-Ek and Aethyr (from "Arrival") WILL be seen again, but the roles ARE being recast. The role of the President is also being cast for the episode. Casting notices have also gone out for the role of a character named "Raya," whom "Secretagentman" reveals was an assistant of Jor-El's who helps Clark get out of the Phantom Zone. It sounds as though Raya will give Clark a crystal that will help him to stop Lex/Zod. Source: KryptonSite

Episode 6.02: Sneeze
Airdate: Fall 2006

07/14 - "Secretagentman" strikes again with some spoilage: One of the characters being cast for the episode is "Orlando Block," an unbalanced commando who kidnaps Lex. Initially it seems he is torturing Lex to learn all his secrets, but actually he is the employee of a mysterious mastermind. Source: KryptonSite
07/08 - Title is from KryptonSite.

Episode 6.03: Wither
Airdate: Fall 2006

08/01 - Just heard that there’ll be a big episode in which Lex throws a charity fundraiser at the mansion and gets The All American Rejects to play. The band is filming on Wednesday and singing their hit song, “It Ends Tonight,” which will appear on the show. The party is a costume party and we’ll get to know the show’s new addition, The Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), a little better and see which lucky lady he’s asked to escort him to the ball. Source: Kristin on E!Online
07/29 - Gough told The Continuum that Oliver won't be wearing his costume from the comics. "Although there will be a nod to it in episode three during a costume party," he said. Source: Comics Continuum
07/29 - The latest from "Secretagentman": There's a character named Gloria who is a "naturally beautiful" park ranger investigating some weird happenings inthe woods. A young couple is "frolicking" in the woods, and they are dragged away and left barely alive. Lois Lane barges into Oliver Queen's office. Lex hosts a costume party. Clark tries to dance with Gloria and a lumberjack "growls" at him. Source: KryptonSite
07/08 - Title is from KryptonSite.

Episode 6.04: Arrow
Airdate: Fall 2006

07/21 - [The] TV Guide's July 24 edition [reveals that] DC Comics character of Oliver Queen, better known to fans as Green Arrow, will be making an appearance in Smallville for a story arc that will go for "at least seven episodes." "He will start to form the nascent Justice League," Smallville executive producer Alfred Gough tells TV Guide in this week's issue. "He's trying to find like-minded people with special powers and put a more formal structure in place." The article goes on to say that Clark will initially be wary of Green Arrow, much like he was when future characters such as the Flash or Aquaman showed up in previous seasons. "Ultimately Clark will see the value of what he is trying to do," Gough says. "But as he's gotten older, Clark has become more cautious. He will always be there to help out, but he doesn't want to be part of a formalized organization." Just as big as the announcement of the character is the casting - Justin Hartley, who played the role of AC/Aquaman in Millar & Gough's Aquaman pilot will be playing the role of Ollie. TV Guide also reveals that Lois Lane will take a romantic interest in the emerald archer. Source: KryptonSite
07/21 - Title is from KryptonSite.

Episode 6.05: Subterranean
Airdate: Fall 2006

07/21 - Title is from KryptonSite.

General Season 6 Spoilers:

05/17 - Al Gough reveals: The theme [of Season 6] is the rise of Lex Luthor. You're definitely going to see the more ruthless Lex Luthor you know from the comic books really start to emerge. The season will also be about the corruption of good — not only Lana, but Martha. Will she get involved with Lionel? And when Clark does come back from the Phantom Zone, what will it have done to him? We never really explored what happens to somebody inside the Phantom Zone, which is really the ultimate incarceration. [...] The idea was that on Krypton — and we'd like to explore some of this in Season 6 — Zod was the ultimate terrorist. He and Jor-El were once friends and became enemies. As a result, there was a breakaway. It has more to do with political intrigue rather than that the planet started spinning too close to the sun, which has always sort of been the traditional story. Source: TV Guide Online
05/16 - The two Kryptonian baddies last seen in "Arrival" may return in Season 6. It is rumored that James Marsters may appear in Smallville's Season 6 premiere. It sounds like all of Smallville's seven lead characters will survive into the next season. Will Lex keep his powers? Guess we'll have to wait and see... Source: KryptonSite

SFX interview-Grace Park

Source: SFX Contains Spoilers (in Inviso-text ... highlight to reveal)

"Before we begin frantically searching the Battlestar set for a glass of ice water, Park describes what's in store for Valerii in season three - which begins four months after the Cylon invasion of New Caprica "she's flying again. So you witness her being reinstated. I found out that I was married, too."

Reinstated? Married? Does this mean Adama has finally come to trust Valerii? "I think Adama trusts her. The President is still quite wary. Obviously Helo trusts her and they are a few of her long time friends that are perhaps happy she's back, but not necessarily openly sharing how they feel about that. Because there's almost dissent in the ranks now, which you'll start seeing a little bit later, that starts creating chaos...She's never completely trustworthy. I think like anyone, she tries her best but she's been tested so hard that sometimes she snaps and she's liable to do something that's probably not rational.

"I think season two definitely saw a lot of trauma and catastrophe around Sharon. Every episode there was a new disaster and it didn't seem like it was gonna let up. At the same time the storyline also changed. But just when you think you can trust her they (the writers) throw in something. I think they like to keep playing with the audience. And that's fun. I think that's part of the intrigue of her character.

Though Park praises Battlestar's entire cast - calling them "a damn good troupe" - she gives special credit to the man who play's Valerii's new husband Helo -actor Tahmoh Penikett. "It's really rewarding working with Tahmoh, because he's always growing and changing as an artist. And if I'm stuck he definitely puts his two cents in and either laughs at me or gives me some good advice...

3/31/06: Ronald D. Moore last week confirmed that Zarek is Baltar's Vice-President, but their relationship soured quickly. Zarek stopped cooperating altogether beginning with the Cylon occupation [Thanks to Eric for passing this one along.]
3/10/06: There will be an ongoing story arc dealing with the Cylons, which will center on the Cylon homeworld. The use of a parallel storyline sounds similar to the Helo/Sharon Caprica storyline from the first season and early second (2.0) season episodes. The first seeds of this story arc were probably planted in Episode 2.18 (Downloaded) and furthered by the Caprica Cavil in Episode 2.20 (LDYB, Pt 2).
3/10/06: The plot point about Leoben looking for Kara will take three episodes to be tied up.
3/10/06: The Cylon occupation will be dealt with in either the first four or first six episodes of the season.
3/10/06: Kara, Tigh and Roslin will put together a resistance that echos Vichy France of WWII.
3/10/06: Episodes will begin airing on on SciFi in October, not July.
2/21/06: Episodes will begin airing on on SciFi in July.
2/21/06: Season 3 picks up the storyline [immediately] from the end of Season 2. [Update: Apparently not. It will pick up 4 months after Season 2.]
2/21/06: According to Aaron Douglas, six teleplays have already been completed.
2/21/06: According to Aaron Douglas, filming begins on April 10th.
Filming starts April 3rd (?)
The Cylons will have some internal turmoil of their own and perhaps find that they are more like humanity than they had believed.

A D'Anna Biers model [Webmaster's note: the one killed by Reborn Caprica/Baltar Six?] will claim to be the Cylon God [Webmaster's note: 'leader' might be a better term], which leads to some factions developing in the Cylon culture.

Lucy Lawless has signed to appear in ten episodes in Season 3.
Kara's "missing ovaries" will be a major plot point in Season 3.

July 29th Spoilers (Lost, GA, NCIS)

Lost Spoilers
Updated on July 29, 2006

Lost airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST. The series will return in October for 6 episodes and then go in hiatus for 12 weeks and come back for 17 straight episodes.

All Spoilers are in "Inviso-Text" (highlight to reveal)

Episode 3.01: A Tale of Two Cities (Kate-centric)
Airdate: October 4, 2006

07/29 - This episode will be Kate-centric and have flashbacks featuring a 60-year-old motherly, warm, and funny woman as well as handsome twenty-year-old Karl. Source: SpoilerFix.com [Note: The role of Amelia, posted in the General Season 3 spoilers on July 14, may now be part of Kate's flashback.]

07/21 - During an interview Carlton Cuse revealed: We pick up where we left off, but obviously there are different stories on different parts of the island, and, you know, we will get to all of them in the first few episodes. But like last year, we didn't deal with the raft survivors in the first episode. Not everything is going to be answered in the first episode. But the captivity story [with Jack, Kate and Sawyer] will definitely be addressed. Source: The Ausiello Report

General Season 3 spoilers:

07/29 - Elizabeth Mitchell has joined the cast of ABC's hit drama "Lost" as a possible new love interest for Matthew Fox's character, sources said. Source: Yahoo! [Note: We believe that she will play "Juliet" decribed in out July 14 spoilers below.]

07/26 - Rodrigo Santoro, best known to American audiences as the hot dude Laura Linney crushed on in Love Actually, is joining the cast this fall. Source: The Ausiello Report

07/22 - Among the revelations to come: Viewers will learn more about Desmond and Penny, why Locke was paralyzed, why Libby was in the asylum, and why the island has healing powers. Source: Sci Fi Wire

07/22 - The smoke monster is definitely not made of nanobots. Kate will "make her choice" in the first six episodes of the season. Her choice is presumably between Sawyer and Jack. The word "clone" will never be heard on the show. The Powers That Be all but confirmed Libby will be appearing in flashbacks, most logically Desmond's or Hurley's. If you're asking about daddy issues, you're asking the right questions. Strong implication that an underwater hatch might exist and that it might be explored this season. The producers say the hieroglyphics on the timer translate to "underworld". Source: Kristin on E!Online

07/21 - During an interview Carlton Cuse revealed: We almost view the first six as a miniseries. And it's going to answer what we left hanging at the end of the finale. Obviously, we're going to explain what happened to Locke and Desmond and Eko, and sort of deal with the fact that Sawyer and Kate and Jack are in captivity. We would love to sort of finish up [Libby]'s story. We're casting two female roles and one new male role. I can't tell you where the characters are going to come from, but obviously, one of the things we're doing this year on the show is... learning a lot more about the Others, and their society and their history. So it might be fair to say that you're going to learn more about some other characters who are also Others. I wouldn't call it the season of sex, but I will say that romance will play a much more active part of the show this year... We actually meant to get to it last year. We didn't really get to the romance as fast as we thought we were going to. So this year that's definitely on our agenda. I think actually one of these new female characters is going to be a romantic interest, possibly for Jack. There will be several new romances on the show this year... I think that this year we're looking to make the show a little bit brighter, a little bit more vibrant, a little bit more on the action-adventure axis, a little bit more on the romance axis. I don't think the show will be as dark and as intense this year [as it was last season]. And it will be, I think, even more on the character axis than on the mythological axis. John Locke will be a very different person in Season 3. All of his questions and his doubts and his uncertainty have been answered. In fact, the button did mean something. And there was something at stake. And I think that will bring about a change in that character. Penny is an important character in the overarching mythology of the show. The interrelationship between the outside world and the island will be something that will be a part of Season 3. The monster will be a part of Season 3, as will the polar bear. People are asking what happened to the polar bear, so we will be doing some polar-bear stories. The smoke creature and the monster are one and the same. I hope Cindy shows up at some point. Let's just say we have many actors on our show; she is not at the top of the list of actors we're servicing. Source: The Ausiello Report

07/14 - Juliet, a woman in her mid-30s, will be added to the cast as a regular. Juliet is a natural leader and a smart and independant woman. One of her flashbacks (?) will involve her mother Amelia. During said flashback, the ladies will discuss burnt brownies and Juliet's love life. It seems that Juliet may be an Other. Jack is held alone in a room and Juliet looks at him, separated from him with a glass window. Jack tries to break the chains that are holding him. Juliet tries to convince a pissed off Jack to trust her. Source: SpoilerFix.com [Note: It is unknown when those scenes will be seen and if they will be part of an episode.]

Q & A on BSG Season 3 with Ron Moore

Source: Ron Moore's Blog

News and Q & A (Battlestar Galactica Season 3)

So, yes it's been forever and a day since I've last blogged. I feel shame.

To catch up on things: we're currently filming episodes 10 & 11, our mid-season cliffhanger episodes, after which we're going to take a four week hiatus from shooting, then resume production on the remaining eight. "Eight?" you ask, perceptively recognizing that would only add up to 19 and our much-publicized order was for 20. "Are you in trouble? Are they cutting back your order? Or did you fail math?"

No, no, and yes, but that's not the issue.

In another of our patented feats of editorial derring-do, we've taken what was to be episode 3, "Exodus" and crafted two episodes from it, thereby obviating the need to shoot one more show. As it currently stands, we will be opening Season Three with a two-hour premiere of what were originally two stand-alone episodes, "Occupation" and "Precipice" ("Occuprice," as it were) then resume airing normal one hours with "Exodus Part One." Confused? Good, that's the way we like it. Gotta keep the audience guessing.

Since I last blogged, the show received the George Foster Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting at a ceremony in New York. The entire writing staff attended as well as myself, David Eick, and several members of the cast and a good time was had by all. Terry and I (Mrs.Ron to those of you in the know) did a series of podcasts from the event and they'll be available for download at some point.

Personally, I can tell you that being in that ballroom, alongside of the other recipients of the award was a truly humbling experience. We were watching clips of documentaries dealing with fake pharmaceuticals in Asia, coverage of Katrina, exposes on Army recruiting practices, AIDS issues -- it was an extraordinary gathering of talent and material and to even be considered in the same breath with most of the work on display was a jaw-dropping experience that I'll cherish the rest of my life. It was truly one of the highpoints of my career and I'm grateful to continue to be allowed to do this show with this incredible group of people.

And now, on to your questions:

"Hey Ron, a lot of Buffy fans are very excited that Jane Espenson will be writing an episode of Battlestar Galactica next season. My question is can you please get her to write more than one, or better yet get her to join the staff? Please! "

We were pretty excited to have Jane too. I actually took Jane's first pitch way back in my early days at Star Trek and I had the pleasure of buying what turned out to be her first sale. I hadn't seen her since, but I'd followed her career from afar and was very proud to see her do so well. Turns out that Jane was a huge fan of Galactica and really wanted to do a script for us, so we jumped on the chance. I think we're all hoping that we could get her on staff at some point in the future, but we'll have to wait and see how everything shakes out for Season Four -- and whether she's even available, she's very much in demand these days. Her episode this year is "The Passage" (originally Ep 9) and deals with a harrowing voyage of the rag-tag fleet and focuses on Kat.

"I'm sure you know that BSG has a large following in the gay community. Obviously I'm not saying a show should change because of who watches it, but it has appeared so far that there are no gay characters on Battlestar Galactica. I'm just wondering if it's the case that homosexuality doesn't exist in the world of Battlestar, or it does exist, there are gay characters, and it just hasn't been discussed because it isn't relevant toward the plot. I love the show, and I know you wouldn't want to have a character just be gay to please the audience, or even necessarily to touch on any issues, but couldn't characters be gay and it not be an issue? It seems unlikely that homosexuality completely wouldn't exist."

It's a fair question. I think homosexuality definitely exists in the world of Galactica, but I frankly haven't found a way to portray it yet. It's a texture that I'd like to introduce into the series without doing "the gay episode." It's something that gets talked about internally periodically, but so far there hasn't been a good story or character arc or scene that's seemed like a good way to establish the fact without really hanging a big neon sign out that says, "See, we're doing a gay theme now!" Ultimately, it's probably a failure of imagination on my part and a reflection of the fact that I've never made this a priority for us, so pin the blame on me for not moving this bit of reality into our universe.

"Question: Why were the 'Boomers' naked on that basestar at the end of season one but the cylons on Caprica wear clothes? If the cylons on Caprica are trying to mimic humans so much, why weren't the ones on the basestar?"

First and foremost, the naked Boomers were just a neat idea and that's really why we wanted to do them. But beyond that, the idea was that on the Baseships, the Cylons live closer to their true nature as machines and that certain concepts and social conventions of human society would be less relevant to them than when they were interacting in an inherently human setting like on Caprica.

"Since Roslin's cancer is gone *wink wink* I was just wondering something. She proclaimed herself to be the dying leader of Colonial prophecy and people followed her as a religous leader, but now that she's no longer dying *wink wink* is she still considered to be "The Leader"? Are people in the colonies still looking to her as a sort of Colonial Moses who will lead them to the promise land of Earth? And since she is no longer suffering from her cancer I would assume that she's no longer taking the Chamala, so is she still having visions? Will she be having visions later on? Has the experince on New Caprica taking a toll on her faith? Is the experince on New Caprica mentioned at all in the Pythian Texts? Are you still planning on exploring Roslin's role in Colonial reglion?"

Good questions all. We have had numerous discussions of the fact that since Laura is no longer dying she may not, in fact, be the "dying leader" mentioned in the scriptures. There's also been talk of how that would be reflected throughout the fleet and in particular among the religious community and there will be some follow-up in this area. She isn't taking chamalla any longer, but she will experience some... "experiences" which will indicate that this part of her life isn't necessarily over. Her life on New Caprica will definitely influence her outlook on religion, indeed it will influence her role as president from now on.

"Another question if you don't mind. Is there any significance in the specific model numbers you assigned to some of the known cylons? D'anna is a three, Doral is a five, Six is, well a six and Boomer is an eight? The running fan theory is that each model corresponds with a specific colony and thus a specific astrological sign, but Boomer was supposedly from Aerilon and Aries is the 1st sign of the Zodiac whereas the eighth sign is Scorpio.

So just wondering if you had a reason for assigning the cylon with the model numbers you gave them or did you just make up them up on the spot?"

Number Six was specifically a homage to "The Prisoner," but the rest were assigned their numbers randomly.

"With the amazing lengths you've gone to, to show all of the military detail (many of my friends who were in the service watch the show and remark on this), I'm struggling with a few little things and it's probably just me and the guys at work nitpicking. Is there significance to the props used, like the hummer and thompson automatic on the wall of the Pegasus ready room? Is there an implication that these items evolved in a similar way to the way they have on Earth or is there something deeper to look forwards to? LSO Kelly, for another example, we would have thought him to be an integral part of any scene involving the launch or landing of vipers, yet we rarely (3 episodes?) see him. Wasn't he left in charge of the Galactica at some point? I feel like I've just handed the keys to my jaguar to a valet thinking about a character we've barely seen being handed control of the most powerful ship in the human arsenal."

The props are all deliberate choices that imply more than just a passing connection between our world and the world of Galactica and there are deeper connections yet to come.

The appearance/disappearance of Captain Kelly has more to do with the budgeting process on the show than any creative issue. We only have so much money to spend each week and it's not worth it to pay to bring in Kelly (or any other recognizable guest-star for that matter) unless he's integral to the plot. So, we ask you to take the leap with us and assume that characters like Kelly and Kat and Hotdog and so on, are still aboard ship and doing their jobs even when they're not featured on camera, and therefore are ready to step into action the moment we actually need them for a story.

Without any clever preamble (I'm about to get on a plane and leave the country for two weeks, and boy, do I need the break), here's my last bit of TCA reporting for you. I spoke last night with Bradley Thompson, one of the writers on "Battlestar Galactica," and got a few interesting tidbits for fans of the show, which returns in October.

There's some semi-spoiler-y info here, but don't fret -- I'll warn you when that stuff is coming. And trust me, I will have plenty more "Battlestar Galactica" coverage when the show returns in the fall.

One final "Galactica" note before we get down to business: The second half of Season 2 comes out on DVD Sept. 19, and it features an exclusive extended version of "Pegasus."

Anyhow, here goes:

* The first outing of the third season will be a 2-hour episode. Early in the season, there will be two linked episodes as well; episode 3 will end with a "to be continued."
* Thompson and his writing partner, David Weddle, produced 10 2-minute "Battlestar Galactica" Webisodes which could debut online as early as August (when Sci Fi confirms a date on their debut, I'll let you know). Those Webisodes will concern the birth of the resistance movement on New Caprica (as you'll recall from the show's breathtaking finale, the Cylons, after leaving the human survivors alone on New Caprica for months, invaded the planet and took over).

Weddle says the Webisodes will give viewers more information about why certain resistance fighters take certain actions fairly early in Season 3. You don't need to have seen the Webisodes to enjoy Season 3, but it sounds like you'll have much more back story on the resistance fighters if you do happen to see the Web stories. "You find out why they do what they do," Thompson said.

We'll meet two new characters in the Webisodes, which take place a few months after the Cylon invasion, and they'll also feature Tigh, Cally and her baby, Tyrol and other characters we already know.

Thompson said he and Weddle didn't really view the Webisodes as 10 totally discrete stories, but more "a half-hour episode broken into 10 chunks."
* Jane Espenson, one of television's best and most versatile writers (she has a great blog too), is writing an episode called "The Passage." It's episode nine of Season 3. "We had a freelance slot," and Espenson got the call, Thompson said. Just some of the shows that Espenson has worked on: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Firefly," "Gilmore Girls" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (where Weddle and Thompson were staff writers). So, yeah. I have a strong feeling that her episode is going to rock. (Jane on "Galactica": "It's been a long time since I've seen a show that does such a good job of crafting plot developments that defy prediction without feeling arbitrary." Word.)

Anyhow, Espenson's episode arose when the show brought in Dr. Kevin Grazier, a scientist from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who talked about how one would navigate through space; how one would figure out how to get from one point in the universe to, for example, Earth. Grazier's talk prompted the story at the heart of Espenson's episode.
* I asked Thompson about Adama's actions in the finale -- had he let the fleet protecting New Caprica dwindle because he was just tired, because so many folks wanted to head down to the planet and he couldn't stop them, or because he really thought the Cylons weren't coming back? "That will be addressed," he said.
* I also asked about the return of the Cylons. I'd thought that in the finale, Brother Cavil (Dean Stockwell's character) had said or at least implied that the Cylons were going to leave the humans alone. But Thompson pointed out, quite rightly, that Cavil had only said, "We have other plans." Hmmmmm.
* Part of the reason Billy died in Season 2 is because the actor got a pilot and things got complicated as far as getting him for certain days/episodes. "To his credit, [Paul Campbell, who played Billy] did a terrific job," in the episode in which he bit the bullet. (How cool is this? We're going to see Campbell again soon -- now that NBC has picked up Webisodes and prime-time episodes of "Nobody's Watching.")

This is the semi-spoiler-y stuff (everything in quotes is from Thompson):

* The Cylons "will have a bigger presence" in Season 3. And "we'll learn something new about them."
* "People will die. They always do," he said. When I asked about the strong rumors about a high-profile character's death, Thompson just gave me an enigmatic grin. He wouldn't elaborate on who dies and how, but he did say that when the writers sketched out the third season, there were originally going to be a lot more deaths. Regarding character deaths, some actors "don't know how closely they missed it."
* Baltar is more or less New Caprica's Marshal Pertain in the new episodes. Did Baltar know the Cylons were coming? "That's a good question, isn't it?" He asked what I thought. I honestly don't know. I'd guess Baltar didn't know, but boy, wouldn't it be interesting if he did?
* In the third season, we will meet someone from Adama's past.
* Though the third season will begin months after the Cylons begin their occupation of New Caprica, there will be some flashbacks of the "lost time" between the end of the finale and the start of the third season. One of those flashbacks will involve what Adama and Roslin were up to once the Cylons arrived.
* We'll find out why Kara "Starbuck" Thrace and Lee "Apollo" Adama were really, really grumpy with each other in the Season 2 finale.

New "Lost" Castaway member

Cast of "Lost"

"Lost" Adds One More

By Gina Serpe
E!Online July 28, 2006

There should be no love lost over Lost's new love.

Except maybe between Jack and Kate.

Elizabeth Mitchell, best known for playing Kerry Weaver's ill-fated girlfriend on ER, has signed on as a series regular for the upcoming third season of Lost.

(SPOILER ALERT: What little information has been released on the character could upset particularly fickle and/or dense viewers.)

Producers, as expected, have kept mum on details of Mitchell's character, divulging little more than her name--Juliet. However, the Hollywood Reporter claims the 36-year-old will act as a love interest for Jack (Matthew Fox), possibly dismantling the two seasons-strong love triangle of him, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway).

Earlier this week, writer-producer Damon Lindelof earlier said there would be a resolution, with Kate making her decision between the would-be beaus within the first six episodes of the season.

And with Mitchell aboard, it seems like the good doctor just might lose out.

Still, it's unknown whether her character will be a hitherto unknown Oceanic Flight 815 survivor, a new castaway, an Other, a member of the off-island world or simply someone who appears in flashbacks--but since she's confirmed as a regular addition to the cast, the latter is probably unlikely.

And while clue-hungry viewers might be quick to associate her character's name with images of doomed love, producers have yet to confirm the depth of her relationship with Jack--if there is such a relationship.

Though it's looking fairly likely.

"I wouldn't call it the season of sex, but I will say that romance will play a much more active part of the show this year," writer-producer Carlton Cuse told TV Guide. "That's definitely on our agenda."

Mitchell is the second new addition, joining Rodrigo Santoro.

Earlier this week, producers announced that the 30-year-old actor, dubbed by media to be the "Brazilian Tom Cruise," was joining the show, though in a regular or recurring capacity was unknown.

Cuse again played coy when discussing the Love, Actually star's character, failing to disclose so much as his name.

"We don't really want to be at all specific about what we're doing with the character or what he's going to play," Cuse told TV Guide. "Part of the surprise and the enjoyment of watching the show is sort of getting a chance to meet a new character and see how his role is going to unfold in relation to the rest of the cast."

With the castings of Rodrigo and Mitchell, it's two down, one to go. Earlier this week, Cuse said that three new faces would be joining the show next season--two females and one male.

Of course, landing the gig is no guarantee of small-screen longevity. Of the three full-time cast members added at the start of the show's second season, only one made it through the year alive.

The J.J. Abrams-penned third-season premiere, "A Tale of Two Cities," airs Oct. 4.

BSG Season 3 update (Exec. Prod David Eick interview)

Executive Producer David Eick Talks Galactica Year Three and Caprica

Source: Now Playing

Battlestar Galactica may not have gotten any major Emmy nominations last week, but that doesn't mean that many of us aren't dying for season three of the series to debut. That won't happen until the fall, but in the meantime I recently had the chance to talk to David Eick, executive producer of the show. What follows is a portion of that chat (subscribe to our print magazine for the rest of the interview), including a glimpse of what's to come for Galactica, as well as its spin-off series, Caprica.

Now Playing: You took a step forward at the end of last season, and I hear you're planning on doing it again at the beginning of season three. Why did you choose to make that jump?

David Eick: It seemed that much of that year was being spent under a pretence of a detente between the Cylons and the humans. And there's little drama to be gotten out of that truce. In other words, one would presume that they made nice for a period of time. Basically, there is a lot of start-up that would have to take place within that society. The building of that society, the organization of it and then the beginning of the fraying of the relationships with the Cylons. And it just seemed like the more interesting part of the drama to cut to would be the point at which the world had undergone a year of having been built, the relationships had changed to some degree and the beginning of the friction with the Cylons was really beginning, so that was the reason for it.

NP: I understand that you're setting up a government similar to Vichy, France, is that right?

DE: Yeah, exactly. That's exactly my point. Versus what felt like rather dull society building, which just didn't seem that terribly compelling.

NP: Have you planned out the arc for the season already?

DE: Not for the entirety of the season, but certainly for the first 12 or so, we're pretty clear where we're going.

NP: Seems like you just went back to work.

DE: I know. It's going fast.

NP: Are we going to see a splintering of the Galactica characters?

DE: For the first three episodes of the new season, the skeleton crew that's left on the Galactica is in space sort of working as the lighthouse holding a vigil to protect against any sudden Cylon attack or anything going wrong. And the rest of the society is down on the planet.

NP: Is there a risk in making big changes to the show?

DE: I realize there's stuff we've got in the works that you aren't aware of yet, which is why things seem a little more different. But I do think you're correct that the formula so to speak has changed in that we had in the first season, for example, episodes like "33," "Bastille Day," "Hand of God," these were episodes that were more or less self-contained, they involved a specific agenda that resulted in some kind of clash or conflict and by the end of that episode, the conflict was resolved. We probably have fewer of those. I know there are some that are more in that direction. There's one that involves a human POW who's been trapped on the Cylon base ship for the last four years, and when we meet him we realize it's a great homecoming for him because he was one of Adama's pilots. But by the middle of the episode you realize the reason why this guy was taken prisoner was because Adama shot his ship down. And it becomes sort of an episode about why such a thing would have happened and how Adama begins to believe that on some level he might have been responsible for provoking the Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies. That's a very intense sort of tour de force episode for an actor like Eddie Olmos and for whoever we get to play this pilot. And it's also really an episode that brings Adama and Tigh, who have been a little bit at odds for the first handful of episodes of season three, bringing them back together. Through this very tumultuous and agonizing process for Adama, those two old friends are brought together. So that kind of episode is still possible. We will still do episodes like that. They still affect some of the arc, like I said, the Adama-Tigh arc is sort of resolved in this, but it's more of a standalone. That being said, the first three episodes are serialized. Episode four is pretty much a standalone. Five and six is a two-parter about the discovery of a dying base ship and a plague that has befallen the Cylons. And seven is standalone. Eight is a memory episode that goes back to that lost year and some of the things that took place. So in a way, that's sort of a standalone episode because it's not the continuation of an arc, but it's still serialized because it's going back and exploring an old story. And then nine is basically teeing up - it's not quite a standalone, it's not quite serialized - it's teeing up where we're going in the season finale, which is discovering the next big clue on the road to Earth. And that is the centrepiece of the next episodes, the 10 and 11 two-parter.

NP: So you're dividing the season into two halves again, with a mid-season finale?

DE: Exactly, although the breaking between the two halves is much shorter. I think it was four months last year and it's only going to be a month this year.

NP: How many episodes total this season?

DE: Twenty.

NP: In the past you and Ron have been very involved in doing podcasts and v-casts and additional material for the fans. Are you continuing that?

DE: Yeah. I was shooting my video blog yesterday with Lucy Lawless. So that stuff's continuing.

NP: How has it been working with Lucy?

DE: She's magnificent. She really is. And the audience that might be coming to see her because they were a fan of Xena are going to be dumbfounded.

NP: She's been great so far as a guest star.

DE: Yeah. I think she's reached a completely new level now. It's almost like she's not the same character. I just think in that [first] episode she was sort of in disguise. She was pretending to be this character named D'Anna who was a journalist. So she was affecting certain characteristics that would be consistent with that kind of person, but that's not her personality. The nature of the character's real personality is, I think, much darker, much more interesting and threatening. But in a very, very quiet, understated, powerful way. Which is a little different from the Xena character, which was obviously more fun, more in your face. It was a broader tone than this.

NP: Are you bringing back any of the other guest stars, like Richard Hatch or Dean Stockwell?

DE: Oh, yes. They will all be back, absolutely. Although not everyone survives, they will all be back. For the time being anyway. Some in flashbacks, some as we proceed.

NP: So what happened to Richard's character in the interim year?

DE: You'll have to wait and see. Initially, he is basically banished. And imprisoned. And you'll have to wait and see what happens.

NP: Are you looking at parallels with current events? Does that enter your mind in the writing or story development process?

DE: I think it does to the extent that we're all kind of political junkies and we all watch and read and consume a lot of material regarding what's going on in the world. Both Ron and I were poli-sci majors in school and it remains a sort of natural interest for us. So it informs what we do. It informs our conversations. It informs what we write. It informs how we play things editorially. It's not, however, a contrived, forced agenda. It is not the kind of thing where we sift through like they do in Law & Order, where they literally go through the papers and find their story. For example, when we did the prison torture episode "Flesh and Bone" in season one, I don't ever recall a conversation where we said, "Hey, did you see what's going on in Cuba? Let's do that." It was just a natural outcropping of what we were all kind of thinking and talking about, but it wasn't like we sat down with that agenda.

NP: In the coming season, are you splitting your time on this and the development of Caprica?

DE: No, because we spent a handful of days in a room with Remi Aubuchon, the writer, breaking the story, and we spent a day or so working on the outline with him. But really, that's in such an embryonic stage that it hasn't pulled us away. I mean, we should be so lucky to be sitting here going, "Gee, what do we do today, Caprica or Galactica?" It's not at that stage yet. Right now, it's just a script that none of us have even read yet because it's being written.

NP: It's something that will take place in the past, right?

DE: Yes. Exactly. It takes place about 50 years ago. It's in the Galactica universe, only 50 years before the events of Battlestar.

NP: Will we see any familiar characters, then?

DE: No. At least, not for the most part.

NP: Will we see Cylons like we know them now?

DE: It is about the birth of the artificial intelligence technology that will one day lead to the Cylon race. So on that level, it deals with the Cylons. But certainly not in the same way that we deal with them on our show.

NP: Is there anything more you can say?

DE: The script is still being written.

NP: O.K. Anything else on Galactica you wanted to say?

DE: No, other than if you really love the characters, prepare yourself to say goodbye [evil laugh].

NP: That can be taken many different ways.

DE: Exactly. And that's why I'm going to leave it at that.

Eick on Season Three story, Caprica spin-off

THURSDAY - MAY 25, 2006

by Livi Dolgin

Battlestar Galactica's new season is full of surprises, according to executive producer David Eick. In an interview with iF Magazine, Eick gives fans insight into the conception and direction of Season Three and the new potential spin-off series, Caprica (story).

Eick revealed that the producers are taking the show in a new direction to try and capture a broader audience for SCI FI Channel. "The audiences, who haven't found the show and might like show, are the ones who have been kept at bay by the title or based on the network that we are on," he said. "These are the audiences I am trying to get to, and they're the ones who watch Sopranos, Nip/Tuck, ER, and West Wing. An audience that likes that kind of drama would like our show and watch it."

The evolution of the Cylons will be the driving theme of Season Three. According to Eick, "There is a general sense of a biomechanical history behind the Cylons, and there are various ideas and tangents that can spin from that principle. We will continue to investigate new Cylon forms."

The motivations and modus operandi will evolve as well presenting new challenges for the human refugees. Because the Cylons regenerate, killing them does not have the same repercussions, which gives the show a twist.

"They are going to have reevaluate certain judgments in their approach to humanity," Eick told the magazine. "One of the interesting things about the Cylon culture is it is difficult to hold grudges, even for something as extreme as braining someone with a giant rock, because you can't kill them. In fact, killing someone is not the worst thing you can do, because Cylons regenerate. It all has to be considered in a different way; it's not a 'Godfather' movie where if you kill someone it's a cardinal sin that starts wars."

Fans can look forward to the return of Lucy Lawless (D'Anna Biers) and Dean Stockwell (Brother Cavil) in Season Three. Lawless's character opens the religious issues of the Cylons to betrayal and revenge.

Eick describes the plotline as "a Cylon having a crisis of faith, and that crisis leads her character to a place where she becomes susceptible to betrayal by other Cylons. Her crisis leads to an over-correction that turns her into a Cylon heretic. That's all weird and interesting and very religious, and it adds a certain textured approach to the Cylons."

Battlestar Galactica has been so successful that a prequel spin-off, titled Caprica, is now in development. Caprica will tell the story of events some 50 years before the attack and will differ stylistically from Galactica. The new show will be, "much more romantic, and much more of a soap, [dealing] with a corporation and the man in charge of that corporation who in a very innocent and idealized way propagated the artificial intelligence technology that would later become [unbeknownst to him and those involved in the series] the Cylons," Eick said.

Both Galactica and Caprica will be on SCI FI Channel because, "They said, 'We'll buy it ... go write it.' So that is what we are doing."

Mischa Barton's 'O.C.' Character Killed

Mischa Barton's 'O.C.' Character Killed
May 18, 9:47 PM EST

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Fox's "The O.C." closed its third season Thursday with a deadly twist. Marissa Cooper, played by Mischa Barton, was killed in a car crash.

Barton's character was central to the show, which follows four wealthy Newport Beach teens through the emotional ups and downs of high-school life.

Barton was already a familiar face when she began starring on "The O.C." in 2003. She worked as a model and appeared in several films, including "The Sixth Sense," and TV's "Once and Again."

Rumors flew in recent months that she was ready to leave "The O.C."

Earlier this week, Barton told "Access Hollywood," "My character has been through so, so much and there's really nothing more left for her to do."

Barton, 20, has a film arriving in 2007, "Guilty Pleasures," and other projects in the works.

Marissa's death came at the end of an otherwise upbeat episode.

The class of 2006, which includes Marissa, Ryan, Seth and Summer, graduated from Harbor High School. Seth and Summer were accepted by the same college. Ryan was reunited with his mother, who gave him a Land Cruiser as a graduation gift. Marissa's mom gave her a pearl necklace, while her dad gave her an opportunity to work with him on a yacht set to sail around the Greek islands.

Ryan was taking Marissa to the airport in his new SUV when they were antagonized at high speed by a drunken and vengeful Volchok, who they both had a history with. Volchok swigged from a flask as he chased the pair in his car.

Ryan lost control of the Land Cruiser and crashed, the vehicle rolling off the road. He pulled Marissa from the wreckage just before the vehicle caught fire.

There, on the side of the road, she died in his arms.

BSG Season 3 episodes revealed!

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA NEWS
Second and third episode titles revealed
TUESDAY - APRIL 25, 2006

The titles for two new episodes of Battlestar Galactica's upcoming third season have been uncovered. The season premiere, "Occupation," will be followed by "Precipice," according to a report on radio show Subject2Discussion.

Beware of some spoilers below! (highlight to reveal)

The show's April 11 edition also revealed spoilers for the early part of the upcoming season, including at least one significant character death.

Today GateWorld has learned that the third episode of the season will be titled "Exodus." While no details are yet known about the episode's plot, the title obviously implies that the Colonial survivors may be evacuating New Caprica as early as the third episode of the season.

The show's writers have previously indicated in interviews that the story arc on the Cylon-occupied planet may last as many as five episodes.

The new season of Battlestar Galactica premieres this October on The SCI FI Channel in the U.S.!

BSG cast didn't know about "Caprica" spin off!

Galactica Cast Was in the Dark About 'Caprica'
Fri 28th Apr

Source: MediaBLvd Magazine

Grace Park says that the cast of Battlestar Galactica didn't know that the spinoff prequel Caprica was in the works until Wednesday, the same day the rest of the world first heard about it. She received a call from her manager, who read about it in Variety. Trish Helfer also sent an email out to the cast, which was the first that most of the rest heard about the show being developed.

Grace said this in an interview Thursday with MediaBlvd Magazine, which will be published next week both in the Magazine, and on the Battlestar Galactica fan site, bsgtns.com.

Grace mentions many other interesting facts about season 3. Another tidbit she mentioned; on the set, the 7 Cylon's revealed so far are referred to as the Significant Seven. The 5 as of yet unrevealed models are referred to as the Final Five. The "Five" unrevealed models are so secret, that even the other Cylons are programmed to not think about them, and don't know what they look like or what they are doing.

Look for the full article, along with the podcast of the interview next week in MediaBlvd Magazine.
